DMAE (Dimethylaminoethanol)

Also known as: Actebral; Acumen; Atrol; Bimanol; Cervoxan; Dervoxan; Deaner; Deanol; Diforene; Dimethaen; DMAE; Elevan; Pabenol; Paxanol; Risatarun; Tonibral; Varesal

Description

Dimethylaminoethanol is a modified form of Choline - it is manufactured naturally in small amounts within the Brain and is also found in small amounts in the diet. It is also regarded as a (non-prescription) Smart Drug. DMAE is chemically similar to Diethylaminoethanol (DEAE).

Health Benefits of DMAE

Cells
DMAE helps to stabilize Cell Membranes.

Detoxification
DMAE decreases the incidence and severity of Hangovers in people who consume excessive amounts of Alcohol. research

Metabolism
DMAE may improve Athletic Performance (by improving the body’s production of Energy). research
DMAE increases the body's production of Energy and people using DMAE subjectively report increases in their levels of Energy. research
DMAE alleviates Fatigue (by increasing the body's production of Energy). research

Nervous System
DMAE mildly stimulates the Central Nervous System (CNS):

-Most people who use DMAE supplements report that after 3-4 weeks of DMAE use, they notice a continual mild stimulation of their CNS without side effects.
DMAE increases Alertness (via its effects on Acetylcholine).
DMAE alleviates Anxiety. research
DMAE increases Assertiveness:

-In one human study involving six weeks of DMAE supplementation subjects reported having a more outspoken personality.
DMAE alleviates the behavioral problems and hyperactivity associated with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) - approximately 70% of ADD patients experience increased Attention Span, decreased Aggressiveness, improved Learning ability and (sometimes) increased Intelligence following DMAE treatment. research
DMAE increases Attention Span. research
DMAE reduces Apathy and increases Motivation in persons afflicted with Depression.
DMAE improves Concentration ability. research
DMAE improves the Interhemispheric Flow of Information in the Corpus Callosum of the Brain (thereby improving Creativity and Verbal Fluency).
DMAE decreases Apathy and increases Motivation in Depression patients. research
DMAE improves the behavior and Mental Function of children afflicted with Down’s Syndrome.
DMAE exerts favorable effects on those chronic Dyskinesias (including Tardive Dyskinesia) that occur as a result of long periods of use of Major Tranquilizers. research
DMAE increases Intelligence. research
DMAE improves Learning ability. research
DMAE improves Memory. research
DMAE decreases the accumulation of Lipofuscin within the Brain. research
DMAE elevates Mood. research
DMAE reduces the amount of Sleep required by approximately one hour per night (this effect occurs after six weeks of continuous DMAE use): research

-DMAE makes it easier for most people to get fall asleep Sleep at night.
-DMAE users experience a sounder Sleep and after six weeks of continuous DMAE use, most people report waking earlier and having a clearer mind upon waking.
-DMAE causes Dreams to become more lucid (vivid). research
-DMAE increases daytime motivation and physical Energy in Insomnia patients. research
DMAE increases Willpower. research

Skin
DMAE removes all visible Lipofuscin (a pigment that accumulates in tandem with the progression of the Aging Process) from the Skin. research

DMAE Enhances the Function of these Substances

Neurotransmitters
DMAE increases Acetylcholine levels within the Brain: research

-Medical researchers have speculated that the means by which DMAE increases Brain Acetylcholine levels is by inhibiting Choline metabolism in peripheral tissues, thereby allowing free Choline to accumulate and subsequently enter the Brain where it is converted to Acetylcholine.

Nucleic Acids
DMAE increases the content of Ribonucleic Acid (RNA) in the Brain.

Smart Drugs
DMAE is a component of the chemical structure of Centrophenoxine.
DMAE is synergistic with Piracetam in most people.

Vitamins
DMAE increases the concentration of Choline in the bloodstream (blood plasma) because it enhances the rate at which free Choline enters the blood from other tissues: research

-DMAE increases the levels of Choline in the brain due to DMAE’s superior ability to cross the Blood-Brain Barrier.
-DMAE inhibits the metabolism of Choline in peripheral tissues (permitting “free” Choline to enter the Brain and stimulate the production of Acetylcholine).

These Substances Enhance the Function of DMAE

Vitamins
A small proportion of dietary Choline (Triethylaminoethanol) is converted to DMAE within the body.
Vitamin B5 enhances DMAE's ability to stimulate Acetylcholine production. research

Toxic Effects of Excessive DMAE

DMAE does not produce dependency and tolerance to it does not develop.
Correct dosages of DMAE are non-toxic and excess causes only temporary side effects.

Musculoskeletal System
Excessive DMAE can cause (temporary) Muscle Tension.

Nervous System
Excessive DMAE can cause Headache.
Excessive DMAE can cause (temporary) Insomnia.

Contraindications

Nervous System
Patients with Epilepsy should not use DMAE unless they are monitored by a physician

Dietary Sources of DMAE

Seafood
Small amounts of DMAE (not enough to produce therapeutic effects) are naturally present in Anchovies and Sardines.

Forms of DMAE

DMAE Bitartrate consists of 37% DMAE combined with 63% Tartaric Acid.
Deaner (now produced in only small quantities) is the P-acetamidobenzoate salt of DMAE.

Using DMAE Supplements

General Usage Information
DMAE has a wide dosage range.
The best therapeutic results are observed after 3 months of continued DMAE supplementation.
It may take up to 3 weeks before the first beneficial effects of DMAE are noticed - its' stimulatory effects build up gradually over the first two weeks of use.
DMAE is synergistic with various other Smart Drugs (including Piracetam) and if used in conjunction with other Smart Drugs the dosages for both may be reduced.
DMAE is not synergistic with Centrophenoxine due to the chemical similarity of both substances.
When first using DMAE it is recommended that a higher-than-maintenance dosage (i.e. a “kickstart” dose) be used on the first day of use.

Dosage Guidance
The minimum daily dosage of DMAE that has been shown to produce a therapeutic effect in a small number of people is 10 mg per day.
The usual therapeutic dosage that suits most people ranges from 300 mg up to 3,000 mg per day:

-Many people who use DMAE for the removal of Lipofuscin from their Skin report that a daily dose of 300 mg (of 100% DMAE) causes the disappearance of “Age Spots” after a few months.
When liquid DMAE is used for therapeutic purposes the usual daily dose is 2 to 5 drops.

Bioavailability of DMAE

DMAE is able to permeate the Blood-Brain barrier.

Commercial Availability of DMAE Supplements

“Singular” Oral DMAE Products
Supplemental DMAE is available from health food stores and mail order supplement companies in the USA and Canada in the form of:

-powder (DMAE Bitartrate)
-liquid DMAE
-150 - 351 mg capsules (DMAE Bitartrate)
-75 mg capsules (elemental DMAE)
-40 - 350 mg tablets (DMAE Bitartrate)

Return Synergism

When two substances interact with one another to produce effects that are greater than the sum total of what their individual actions would be in isolation, (by way of analogy 1 + 1 = 3), both substances are described as being synergistic.
